  • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

Art is the most imaginative game. Only human beings can cry or laugh and turn it all into a game. To play, to make art , you only need to imagine.

From the moment all children make art , we channel, trigger, organize, and educate children to collectively express their play through music, dance, singing, painting, theater, and opera. A group of singers, actors, dancers, musicians, acrobats, and illusionists provide the stimulus and condition for Magical Play (Program, Juego Magico, 1983).

The divertimento was a musical mix featuring excerpts from operas such as Verdi’s Aida and La traviata , Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro , Puccini’s Madama Butterfly , and Donizetti’s Elixir of Love , among others. With the Teatro de Bellas Artes Orchestra, they put on a show featuring mimes and acrobats playing with enormous white balloons, which rolled through the audience while children bounced them. The opera was controversial because it broke with the classic production structure and generated conflict among an audience accustomed to more orthodox works. The cutting and arranging of different texts according to the director’s whims, accompanied by Enrique Patrón, generated discomfort among critics. However, those who managed to overcome the discomfort of seeing excerpts from their favorite operas were met with an exciting, fun, and innovative production. This work was also intended to attract the interest of young people and children, because it valued their judgment, culture, and intelligence.
