ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
2021 is a big festival year: 1700 years ago, in 321, Jews were for the first time guaranteed civil rights in Germany by edict. On this occasion we are celebrating the big festival year ‘1700 years of Jewish life in Germany’ in 2021 and there are festive events, exhibitions, concerts, lectures and much more throughout Germany. The aim is to make Jewish life visible and tangible – a concern that Daniel Grossmann and the JCOM have pursued with all of their initiatives since it was founded! We look forward to celebrating 1700 years of Jewish life in Germany ’with you on July 19, 2021! The big JCOM festival concert in the Philharmonie im Gasteig will be the biggest event of the festival year in southern Germany.
The concert program includes a journey through German-Jewish music history: from songs by Fanny Hensel (née Mendelssohn) to overtures by Jacques Offenbach to the Israeli composer Paul Ben-Haim, who was born in Munich, to the duet ‘Reich mir zum Abschied’ by Paul Abraham Melodies by Kurt Weill to lesser-known sounds from the synagogue.
