ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
In the small Tyrolean village near the Bavarian border, the architecturally and acoustically outstanding festival hall, designed by the Viennese architectural team Delugan-Meissl, stands majestically amidst a meadow.
The image shows a man smiling warmly. He is wearing a light-colored suit and a white shirt. In the background, a modern, architecturally designed building belonging to the Tyrolean Festival in Erl is visible. The landscape is green, with a meadow stretching right up to the building. The sky is clear, and the light creates a friendly, sunny atmosphere. This scene reflects the cultural activities and the unique setting of the Tyrolean Festival.
Artistic Director Jonas Kaufmann.
Now, star tenor Jonas Kaufmann is taking over the artistic direction in Erl. The versatile opera singer is at home on the world’s stages. In Erl, the audience favorite is now practicing his new role as artistic director in a rural setting.
Kaufmann is focusing on continuity with new highlights in the program. In its first summer season, the Tyrolean Festival features a young team developing the contemporary opera “Picture a Day Like This,” director Claus Guth ventures a reinterpretation of “Bluebeard’s Castle” as a thriller, and alongside classical song recitals, the program also includes readings and a silent film with live music.
Culture editor Teresa Andreae accompanied the new artistic director, Jonas Kaufmann, with her camera during his first festival summer, exploring cornfields and behind the scenes, and investigates what distinguishes the Tyrolean Festival from other festivals.
