Jackie O Synopsis
ACT ONE: 1968, among the sophisticated social set of New York City
• A grieving Jacqueline Kennedy reflects on her tragedy.
• Hipsters, artists, and denizens gather at an Andy Warhol “Happening”.
• Warhol announces that Jackie Kennedy will be joining them.
• Jackie arrives and privately reflects on her recent life in isolation.
• Warhol explains his philosophy of art as he paints her.
• In Jackie’s mind, Warhol’s painting of her comes to life.
• Greek millionaire Aristotle Onassis now arrives with opera diva Maria Callas.
• Jackie enters, and Onassis pursues her, suggesting they leave the party.
• Promising financial security and safety, Onassis proposes to Jackie.
• With continued turmoil in America, Jackie leaves with Onassis for Greece.
ACT TWO: 1969 and later, after the marriage of Onassis and Jackie
• Aboard Onassis’ yacht, Onassis parties with his cronies.
• In a melancholy mood, Jackie recalls the “bright light” of JFK.
• Unhappy with his marriage to Jackie, Onassis resumes his affair with Callas.
• Onassis receives a phone call informing him that his son has died.
• Jackie and Callas reflect on their own traumas, their own “eternal flames”.
• Paparazzi invade Jackie and Maria’s privacy, but are sent away.
• Callas leaves Jackie alone on the island.
• In her mind, Jackie imagines speaking to JFK in the afterworld.
• Jackie returns to America to create her own new frontier.
