Strephon, an Arcadian shepherd, wants to marry Phyllis, a Ward of Chancery. Phyllis does not know that Strephon is half-fairy, and when she sees Strephon kissing a seemingly young woman, she assumes the worst. But her “rival” turns out to be none other than Strephon’s own mother, Iolanthe, who is a fairy and thus eternally young. Meanwhile, the Lord Chancellor, and half the peers in the House of Lords are also after Phyllis’ hand. Soon, the peers and the fairies are virtually at war, and long friendships are nearly torn asunder. Will it all be happily sorted out? It all depends upon the “subtleties of the legal mind.” —–

The Harvard-Radcliffe Gilbert and Sullivan Players is an independent, non-profit undergraduate organization which had dedicated itself to performing Gilbert & Sullivan operettas since 1956. HRG&SP brings together Harvard undergraduates, graduate students, and members of the wider Boston-Cambridge community to produce and perform two shows from the Gilbert and Sullivan canon every year at the Agassiz Theatre in Radcliffe Yard.
