The plot
The plot is very simple and revolves around a story of multiple crossings of couples, which is also treated with lightness and good-natured irony.

In the locality – governed by a burgomaster and gullible city councilors – the houses have a magic bell above the door that has always been inactive but which for mysterious reasons according to a legend could ring if inside the house theangel of the hearth fell into the temptation of committing adultery.

Things get complicated when a ship of handsome sailors arrives at the port, soon won over by the village ladies delighted by the news. The bells begin to do their duty, alerting the male population who will in turn be able to make up for it when, with another ship, and as a consequence of an unfortunate misunderstanding, the sailors’ wives arrive in town and, before recovering their husbands will be able to repay them in equal money by treating themselves to adistraction holiday with the locals. The bell ringing, at that point, will be total but, as in any self-respecting operetta, the squaring of the circle and the happy ending – thanks to the languidness of the music – are around the corner, just before the curtain falls.
