I like the intimity of this version. If there are any operas from this time period (i.e. cca romantism) which were actually written for the chamber orchestra plus a few singers without the chorus, I would like to know them. Any recommendations ?
Actually, this Bellini’s piece is not a chamber opera, it is ordinary bel canto opera performed by a ”normal” orchestra and with a plenty of chorus scenes. It’s just they were not performed in this cheap production. Check out really chamber operas by Manuel Garcia or his daughter Pauline Viardot. They were written specially for a small cast and orchestra. There are a lot of operas from classical period for example by young Mayr performed by a chamber orchestra and few soloists such as his ”L’amor conjugale”.
Yes, I know the “proper” versions of I Capuleti e i Montecchi. This just somehow appealed to me, how it is smaller and more personal. I will check your recommended operas, thank you very much !!! So far do not now these composers at all.
