ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The premiere of Huma Ridge Tunnel (English working title), an opera by HAN Lankui. Commissioned by Gansu Province Opera House, the opera paints a musical picture of the dig of Huma Ridge railway tunnel which had been considered a mission impossible. Frustrated by hindrances from mud and water leakage, the engineer and construction team were only able to advance an average 8cm per day into the last 173m of the 13.6km tunnel beneath the ridge, a process which took six years till completion in 2017. It is marveled as an engineering miracle.
