ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The program began with excerpts from The Flight of the Eagle, Don Porfirio, War, Adagio of Love, and Elegant Waltz. Rappaccini’s Daughter was followed by the Mexican premiere of the aria Beatriz, door of the world…, performed by Octavio Arévalo.
Jesús Suaste’s performances as Rappaccini continued with the aria Belladonna, cicuta, mandrágora; Beatriz (Encarnación Vázquez) and Giovanni (Arévalo) performed the duet in Todo será bello (Everything will be beautiful); and finally, from the same work, Suaste sang Todo va sucede por si solo (Everything is happening by itself).
To close the first part of the concert, the Tambuco percussion team participated in conjunction with the Bellas de Artes Orchestra in the three-movement symphonic suite by Salsipuedes, entitled Aires caribeños (Caribbean Airs).
This work was composed by Catán with the Tambuco ensemble in mind, Diazmuñoz said.
Afterwards, we heard performances of Florencia in the Amazon: On the Dock, from the symphonic suite; Card Quartet; An Ace of Hearts (Squitieri, Vázquez, Arévalo, and Pérez), and the aria Listen to Me, Cristóbal, with Olivia Gorra in the role of Florencia.
Toward the end of the concert, Amanda Squitieri performed “Morenica Me Llaman,” and to thunderous applause, conductor Diazmuñoz offered the bolero titled “Comprendo.”
