Herminie is the second cantata composed by Hector Berlioz for the Prix de Rome , in July 1828 , for soprano and orchestra . The young composer won second prize. The theme of the first movement was later used as an idée fixe in the Symphonie fantastique in 1830 .Hector Berlioz composed his second cantata for the Prix de Rome in July 1828 , on the theme of Herminia disguising herself in the arms of Clorinda and, under cover of this disguise, leaving the walls of Jerusalem to bring to the wounded Tancred the care of her faithful and unfortunate love, an episode from Tasso ‘s Jerusalem Delivered on a poem by Pierre-Ange Vieillard. The August 2, 1828, the jury awarded him the Second Grand Prix which”should have ensured his victory the following year
