Harnasie (op. 55) – ballet – pantomime written by Karol Szymanowski in 1923–1931.

The one-act piece consists of two scenes and is scored for solo tenor voice, mixed choir and orchestra. It was composed to a script by writer Jerzy Mieczysław Rytard . Its libretto , co-authored by Helena Roj-Kozłowska, was lost before the composition was completed, so Szymanowski, together with Leon Schiller, prepared a new one.

The ballet tells the story of a girl kidnapped by mountain bandits who soon fell in love with their harnas . After returning to the city, she was forcibly married to a wealthy farmer and then abducted by her beloved during the wedding.

On March 7, 1929, Grzegorz Fitelberg conducted a concert performance of the first image at the Warsaw Philharmonic . The symphonic presentation of the second image was heard on May 6, 1931 at the Grand Theatre in Warsaw . The stage premiere took place in Prague on May 10, 1935. The Paris premiere on April 27, 1936 at the Théâtre National de l’Opera, with Serge Lifar as choreographer and performer of Harnaś’s part , turned out to be famous . In Poland, the entire ballet was first performed by the Grand Theatre in Poznań on April 9, 1938.
