ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Goplana is an opera in three acts with a libretto by Ludomił German based on Juliusz Słowacki’s tragedy “Balladyna”. The premiere of Goplana took place in Krakow on July 23, 1896. It is one of the four operas composed by Żeleński. The composer reached for this art because of its exceptional artistic value and staging attractiveness. He intertwined the motifs of the polonaise, kujawiak, mazur and oberek into the music. Żeleński took advantage of the tips of the greatest expert in Polish folk music – Oskar Kolberg.
Scenography based on mapping, based on the paintings of the precursor of romanticism – William Blake. Everything that is needed for the producers to be able to impress the audience is surrounded by the palace in Nieborów … an old garden and a lake from which the nymph Goplana will emerge to thwart the fate of mortals …
