June is a special month in the history of Russian art. At the very beginning of summer, two great people were born who changed the fate of Russian culture: Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka (June 1, 1804) and Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin (June 6, 1799). Their names are often placed next to each other. The famous Russian critic V. Stasov wrote: “Glinka in Russian music has the same meaning as Pushkin in Russian poetry. Both are the founders of new Russian creativity, both are deeply national, both created a new Russian language – in poetry and music.”
In life, Pushkin and Glinka met only briefly, but the poems of one and the music of the other, uniting inextricably, also inextricably linked their names for centuries…
