  By presenting “Gesualdo Passione” at the Nuits de Fourvière, choreographer Amala Dianor and Les Arts Florissants, directed by Paul Agnew, engage in a dialogue as unexpected as it is magnetic between hip-hop dance and baroque music.

  ‎Around the ‎Composer’s Responses to Darkness ‎by Carlo Gesualdo, six singers from Les Arts Florissants make these pages written in the 16th century for Holy Week resonate a cappella.Their interpretation, both refined and incandescent, constructs a real sound space here.

  ‎In front of them, four dancers take over the stage as a physical extension of this music.Inhabited by gestures that oscillate between tension and abandon, they summon both the rigor of classicism and the explosiveness of urban dances.

  ‎This four-handed project, between Paul Agnew and Amala Dianor, is part of a joint exploration of Gesualdo, a fascinating and tormented figure of the late Renaissance.His music, of disturbing modernity, irrigates a creation here where the past and the present embrace each other without confusing each other, in the same dramatic momentum.
