ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

The program, lasting 90 minutes, includes the pieces most loved by the public, with symphonic pages by Verdi, symphonies from Operas, pieces for choir and orchestra. There is also music taken from dances, from compositions, such as Macbeth and Otello , which also include the presence of the ballet corps. The pages chosen are those from the French editions, not the Italian editions.

Daniele Gatti emphasized the particularity of this concert and what the Verdi magic entails for instrumentalists and voices. “Verdi is a composer who has left an enormous mark on opera singing. The concert is an opportunity not only for the music but to see the invaluable work of the symphonic choir and a symphonic orchestra grappling with this vast repertoire.” For the esteemed conductor, all the musicians felt immense joy in tackling this precious journey.

The opening is the Symphony from Luisa Miller, the youthful work from 1849. This is followed by the choruses Jerusalem! and O Lord, from the native roof taken from I Lombardi alla prima crociata of 1843. Soon after, the sounds of the Dances arrive, those composed for the performance in Paris in 1865. The dances and the chorus of Patria oppressa! taken from Macbeth (1847), with a particular tragic timbre.

Don Carlo (1867) is not missing , from the third act to Spuntato ecco il dí d’esulanza . Just as the Symphony and the main themes of the opera Nabucco (1842) are the protagonists . From Gli arredi festivi to the infamous chorus of Va’ pensiero, probably the emblem of the entire Verdi epic . And yet another immersion in the history of Italy: the Symphony of the Sicilian Vespers, written in 1855 for the Paris Opera.

The inspiration comes from the homonymous Palermo insurrection of 1282 against the French invaders. It continues with the already mentioned dances of Otello up to the grand finale, Aida (1871). The Choir and Orchestra of Santa Cecilia will perform Gloria all’Egitto and the Marcia Trionfale . The concert manages to combine the high complexity of Giuseppe Verdi’s lyrical music with an enjoyment suitable for a less elitist audience . All underlined by the sound beauty of the orchestra, voices and musical performers.
