The piano and orchestra version of “Ode to the Red Flag”, the orchestral version of “The Bright Red Sun”, the symphony “New Era”…as the opening of the 39th Shanghai Spring International Music Festival Performance, “Spring Tide on the Pujiang River·Starting a New Journey” – a theme concert celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China was played at the Shanghai Symphony Hall on the evening of the 22nd.

A number of fine works such as the piano and orchestra version of “Ode to the Red Flag” adapted by the famous composer Lu Qiming and the symphony “New Era” composed by the “post-90s” composer Gong Tianpeng were successively performed.

The orchestral overture “Ode to the Red Flag”, composed in 1965, was a great success when it was premiered at the opening ceremony of the 6th “Shanghai Spring”. The piano and orchestra version of “Ode to the Red Flag” uses the piano to play important sections to broaden and enrich the expressive power of the music. “‘Ode to the Red Flag’ has so far had 8 extended versions, and has been revised and finalized several times in the past 60 years.” 94-year-old Lu Qiming said with emotion, “I am very happy to be able to perform “Ode to the Red Flag” again during this ‘Shanghai Spring'” , thank you very much too!”
