One of the most influential literary works of the Renaissance, the epic poem Orlando furioso by Ludovico Ariosto, known as Ariosto (1474 – 1533), also left his mark on the history of opera.The furious Roland was thus given a leading role in works by Antonio Vivaldi and Georg Friedrich Handel, but also by lesser-known baroque composers such as Agostino Steffani, Nicola Porpora and Johann Joseph Flux.Accompanied for the occasion by Le Concert de l’Hostel Dieu, countertenor Xavier Sabata dons the armor of the furious hero and proves that great baroque tunes can display breathtaking beauty even in the intimate atmosphere offered by a recital stage.
