Vienna in the days of the emperor: a forbidden march, fresh pretzel sticks and two people who have just fallen in love make for the perfect material for operettas.
The Deutschmeisterkorporal Willi composed a march entitled “Spring Parade”. Due to many complications, a performance ban is issued. The march may not be played unless ordered by the emperor… With the help of a little trick, young Marika succeeds in persuading the emperor, the march is played at the spring parade and is the great success of the event.
The stage version of the material, which has already been filmed three times, was made in 1963. Probably the best-known screen version of the subject is the film DIE DEUTSCHMEISTER with Romy Schneider, Magda Schneider, Hans Moser and Paul Hörbiger. The hits of the piece: „Wien wird schön erst bei Nacht“, „Singend, klingend, ruft uns das Glück“ and „Im Frühling, im Prater, in Grinzing, in Wien“.
