Lars-Erik Larsson Förklädd gud 20:37Förklädd gud (engl.Disguised God) (opus 24) is a lyrical suite from 1940 by Lars-Erik Larsson, with lyrics by Hjalmar Gullberg. The suite belongs to Larsson’s neo-romantic oriented production and is one of the best-known works of Swedish classical music.[1] Both Larsson and Gullberg were employed by Swedish Radio at the time, and the piece was written to be performed on the radio.
The premiere took place on 1 April 1940 on Swedish Radio. The soloists were Kerstin Torlind and Hugo Hasslo. Olof Molander was the reciter. The radio choir and the Radiotjänst entertainment orchestra were conducted by the composer.
The text is taken from Gullberg’s poetry collection Love in the Twentieth Century from 1933. Gullberg’s idyll takes its starting point from a motif from ancient mythology about the god Apollo, condemned to appear as a human for a year and serve as a servant to King Admetus in Thessaly, in Euripides’ drama Alcestis.
