ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
A Beethoven project marks Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th birthday: Nico and the Navigators and the Kuss Quartet have explored the aesthetic and political forces and freedoms that impacted the creation of the composer’s work. What does it mean to encounter the late quartets with our full range of senses today? How do these pieces relate to our current experiences?
At the Berlin premiere of “Force & Freedom” at Radialsystem, the artists embark on a quest with the string quartets Opus 59 No. 3 Finale and Opus 135, as well as the Dankgesang and the Grosse Fuge, that leads them from historical sources to their own present time. Questions regarding the complex relationship between artist, work and society thereby arise.
