ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Fresh from the Salzburg Festival, 3sat is showing the new production of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Falstaff”. Gerald Finley sings the title role, with Ingo Metzmacher conducting the Vienna Philharmonic.
It is the seventh collaboration between director Christoph Marthaler and stage and costume designer Anna Viebrock at the Salzburg Festival. An international ensemble is on the stage in the Great Festival Hall.
Other roles include singing British baritone Simon Keenlyside as Ford, Russian tenor Bogdan Volkov as Fenton and Italian soprano Giulia Semenzato.
Verdi’s “Commedia lirica” in three acts with a libretto by Arrigo Boito is based on William Shakespeare’s “The Merry Wives of Windsor” with excerpts from the historical drama “King Henry IV.”
Christoph Marthaler stages the comedy as a great Orson Welles homage.
