ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Falso tradimento is based on the story of the mutiny of some German crews, who were preparing to face the British Royal Navy in a last desperate battle, and is intertwined with a story of love and passion, with a dynamic different from that of the nineteenth-century tradition, in which soprano and tenor love each other and the baritone gets in the way: here the prostitute Lola sincerely loves both the captain (Arno) and the sailor (Gabriel) of the mutinous ship. They will both die, as heroes, and Lola – in the last intense monologue – will ask God to join them. Therefore the mutiny does not only represent the background of the story, but a part of the story that the librettists skillfully intertwine – not without a little too much length – with the so-called “private” events of the protagonists. The strengths of this production are first of all the music by Marco Tutino, engaging, very theatrical and magnificently instrumented, capable of telling the story through a refined plot of themes and harmonic stratifications that are never predictable.
