Johann Sebastian Bach never crossed the borders of Germany, but he was keenly interested in the music of other countries. He was especially attracted to Venetian composers. Vivaldi and Marcello’s notes were present in his library, and he even reworked some of Vivaldi’s works, trying to unravel the secret of Italian melodiousness and bring it into German organ music.
In the cathedral on Malaya Gruzinskaya, Bach will meet his Venetian colleagues. Bach’s chorale preludes on the theme of Lent and Vivaldi’s “Stabat Mater” will be performed.
