    PROGRAM LEAFLET

By the mid-19th century, minor theatrical genres in Spain experienced an unprecedented boom. This frenzy led to the emergence of new dramaturgies, venues, and companies devoted to short-form theatre, which eventually crystallised into what became known as género chico: entertaining one-act works usually lasting under an hour. Francisco Asenjo Barbieri (1823–1894) played a key role in this process with a prolific output that remains partly forgotten. This new edition of Chamber Musical Theatre revives two titles successfully premiered in the 1850s: the comic zarzuela El vizconde [The Viscount] is interwoven with the lyrical-comic interlude Gato por liebre [Cat for a Hare].
