ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The opera is set on the Day of the Dead—the Mexican festival to celebrate and remember loved ones who have passed away. While a large portion of the action takes place in and around Mexico City (where Kahlo and Rivera spent much of their time together and created some of their most lasting works of art), there are also important scenes in the Aztec underworld, Mictlān, as well as along the road between the two realms.
