El santo de la Isidra is aone-act farce , written by Carlos Arniches , with music by Tomás López Torregrosa , premiered at the Teatro Apolo in Madrid on February 19, 1898.

Set in the traditional Madrid of the time, the piece narrates the difficulties that Venancio and Isidra must go through to consolidate their love, in the face of the continuous confrontations of her former boyfriend, named Epifanio ..

La Isidra, daughter of Mr. Matías, maintains relations with Epifanio, a pimp whom Isidra abandons days before the wedding when she finds out that he lives off women.
Epifanio, who has frightened the entire neighborhood, threatens to cut anyone who dares to ask Isidra to dance at the festival.
Venancio, a shy shoemaker in love with the chulapa, gathers courage and invites her to dance. The pimp rushes at him and the shoemaker, who draws strength from his weakness, confronts him.
Epifanio flees and Isidra makes up with the shoemaker.
