Begun in 1977 and completed in 2003, Licht (Light) is an operatic cycle that escapes all qualifiers: over the course of these seven operas, whose total duration is 29 hours, Karlheinz Stockhausen shapes a universe in which he replays the great struggle of good against evil. Each part of the cycle is dedicated to a day of the week, to which correspond a planet and the various attributes from its mythology. Editing the cycle in its entirety, however, was never accomplished within the framework of a single production – not even by Stockhausen himself, since two days were created posthumously, under the leadership of his Foundation
