ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Mozart’s “Magic Flute” is the classic among the productions of the Salzburg Marionette Theater. With its clear and imaginative interpretation, this production has delighted millions of viewers worldwide since 1952.
The Salzburg Marionette Theater is one of the most traditional puppet theaters in the world.
The particularly detailed way of playing was recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage (Austria, national list) in 2016. The repertoire of the theatre, founded in 1913, includes not only well-known opera productions, plays, ballets and fairy tales, but also contemporary productions and collaborations with leading cultural partners and artists.
The ensemble consists of ten puppeteers who are trained in a wide variety of crafts. They are characterized by musicality, great empathy and the highest level of dexterity. With these skills, they succeed in breathing life into the most diverse characters on stage and creating a highly realistic human likeness.
All marionettes are made by the members of the ensemble themselves based on the ideas and drafts of a director and the set team in the theatre. 20 to 90 characters are used in each production and some of them are controlled by several players at the same time. More than 700 small actors are currently “engaged” at the Salzburg Marionette Theater, but the pool is far more extensive.
A performance by the Salzburg Marionette Theater is a unique experience. Hardly anyone can resist the magic of the perfectly performed figures, the fantastic stage designs and the musical setting. It is a pleasure to dive into another world – full of wonder and illusion
