She just doesn’t love him, the miller’s daughter. The traveling journeyman in Franz Schubert’s “Die Schöne Müllerin” (The Beautiful Miller) has to experience the pain of that. The song cycle, which begins with the well-known »Wandering is the miller’s delight«, accompanies the young protagonist on confused paths: how he gets hired at a mill, falls in love with the beautiful miller’s daughter and finally loses himself between the search for meaning and lovesickness.
The new project of the Musicbanda Franui is another event: the chamber ensemble from the Austrian mountains not only makes music at an incredibly high level, they also regularly team up with artists from completely different genres. In his latest production, it is the bass-baritone Florian Boesch and the puppeteer Nikolaus Habjan. Together they present »Die Schöne Müllerin«, which, combined with Boesch’s captivating singing and the superbly played puppets, surpasses itself.
