PROBABILMENTE uno dei più bei films della storia del cinema, anche se assomiglia poco alla straordinaria operetta di Lehar, come cinema è un esempio squisito di come si possa raccontare con splendido buon gusto una storia alimentata dalla bella musica di Lehar anche se rifatta e rimaneggiata. A teatro bisogna, ripeto BISOGNA, rispettare l’originale, ma il cinema si può permettere di ‘rivedere’ a suo modo un lavoro teatrale e quando c’è Lubitsch di mezzo possiamo stare certi di un risultato favoloso. Come ha detto G. C. Castello qui Lubitsch fa un film a colori, dove ha scelto il bianco e nero – è vero e magico.
