ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
William Pereira, scenic director of the montage, says that he will propose a dialogue with the tradition of baroque opera and a contemporary look at the libretto and a visuality that refers to military conflicts, the wars that devastate the world and are so present in the media. .
“It is a concept structured in partnerships so that the dialogue between music and theater is intense. The concept that guided the staging of this opera was the affirmation of the artificial, the non-naturalistic so dear to baroque aesthetics. Everything is theatrical convention, stylization, bodily and choreographic codes”, highlights the director.
It is worth remembering that this is a work by the English composer Henry Purcell (1659-1695). Considered one of the great works of the English Baroque, the opera was composed in 1688. It is based on Book IV of the Aeneid by the Roman poet Virgil, which narrates the tragic love story between Dido, Queen of Carthage, and Aeneas, Trojan hero.
