ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
A collaboration between “Music Theater in the Reactor” under the artistic direction of Prof. Waltraud Lehner, Institute for Artistic Vocal & Theater Training, with the Institute for Historical Performance Practice, the Madrigal Choir under the direction of Prof. Martin Steidler, the Choral Conducting course under the direction of Prof. Florian Helgath, the composition classes of Prof. Moritz Eggert and Prof. Jan Müller-Wieland and the Artificial Intelligence and Musical Creation department under the direction of Prof. Ali Nikrang
The AI ”Ricercar” developed by Ali Nikrang was used for the composition. It has been further developed at the Ars Electronica Futurelab since 2019 and at the Munich University of Music and Theater since 2023. The project combines technical research with practical artistic discussions to enable new forms of collaboration between human composers and AI in the experimental music field.
Video installations as part of the production are inspired by artificial intelligence, which is able to identify human emotions using facial recognition via video analysis. This allows us to take a look at the emotional interior of Aeneas and thus question the stereotypical role model of the classical hero.
