  • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

Florian Bramböck (* 31 May 1959 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian composer , lecturer and saxophonist .

He completed his studies at the Tyrolean State Conservatory in Innsbruck, the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (saxophone ) with Peter Straub and (jazz) with Karlheinz Miklin , the University of Miami , Florida , USA , and with Ivan Roth in Basel . He graduated in 1984 (classical diploma) and 1985 (jazz diploma) with a diploma in saxophone. Since 1984, he has taught at the Tyrolean State Conservatory in Innsbruck, and since 1993, he has taught jazz saxophone at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz , Upper Austria , Austria . He also held a lectureship at the Mozarteum University Salzburg , Department of Music Education in Innsbruck . He has also worked as a composer since 1984.

Commissioned by the Tyrolean State Theatre, Innsbruck-based saxophonist and composer Florian Bramböck is writing a chamber opera that approaches the subject matter “tonally, atonally, noisily, and rhythmically.” The ups and downs of the woman’s struggle with herself and with men are reflected in the music, which, according to the composer, will “tear and brake, scratch and ring, pant and wrestle, float and sing.” “The She-Devil” is another work in our “Opera Austria” series, in which tradition and modernity merge to create something contemporary.

A young border guard is assigned to a smuggling couple on the border between Bavaria and Tyrol. His mission is to seduce the wife in order to put an end to the husband’s activities. The smuggler, in turn, urges his wife to flirt with the border guard so he can continue his business undisturbed. But the planned union between the two blossoms into a passionate love, and the husband’s calculating generosity gives rise to burning jealousy. However, when the woman realizes that she is merely an object in the men’s speculations, she incites them both against each other.
