The Cousin from Nowhere by Eduard Künneke
Julia, a wealthy heiress, plays along with the dreams of her gluttonous uncle Josse and her admirer Egon, German to his core but somewhat puny of build. She herself dreams of her cousin Roderich, who swore eternal love to her as a child before heading off to the colony of Indonesia. Eventually he will come back and marry her! For a long time the ideal holds out against the reality of circumstances, but then a mysterious stranger triggers a comedy of mistaken identities, even though he is neither foreign nor a harbourer of secrets. In the end there are two Roderichs, but is the real one the true one?
