ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

I had the courage to see this complete performance and immediately I felt it necessary to throw my dvd in the bin, the real place where this offense to the charming Lehar operetta has to stay. Someone wrote it is something ugly, cheap, pointlessly updated with dreadful dialogue. It’s just that. Stage direction: horrible. Scenery and costumes: horrible. Choreograhy: da brividi! – what follows: horrible. Even the music loses its qualities – there’s also an additional useless number and here and there even the score is touched. Now an original work MUST be touched, altered, remade. Badly – always. It seems a duty. The singers have naturally forgot to learn a little from names like Wunderlich, Schwarzkopf, Rothenberger, Dallapozza … The elegance that is a name to be always put near any operetta is here totally forgotten. The audience is happy, applausi a non finire a tutti – it is so sad, so sad. The german audiences have learnt to applaud the murders to the Art, they learnt it very well. We – anyway – have the fortune to own recordings of Lehar’s GRAF VON LUXEMBURG that succeed to give us joy, but to know that this performance is also a commercial dvd it is a must for me to say DON’T BUY THIS DVD, DON’T BUY IT, PLEASE.
