ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The German composer Christoph Willibald Gluck lived and worked on the border between the Baroque and Classical eras, and primarily composed stage works (operas, ballets). His one-act comedy, Der betrogene Kadi, was written in 1761 and is based on a tale from The Thousand and One Nights: the cavern falls in love with a beautiful young girl (Zelmire), who, together with his first wife (Fatime), teaches the cavern a lesson. The role of Omar, the fabric dyer’s ugly daughter (Omega), is traditionally sung by a buffo tenor.
