Plot
First Act
Three artists live together in the Paris district of Montmartre with little money: the painter Raoul, the composer Florimond and the writer Henri. The painter’s lover Ninon initially poses for a painting of Aphrodite . They get into an argument and split up. Violetta also loves the painter, but does not show it openly. Since no one has any money, she pawns a medallion to buy food. A bailiff appears, but to everyone’s surprise does not want to confiscate anything, but brings a large sum of money that was given to the artists by a patron. The three artists use the unexpected windfall to buy Violetta out of her dependence on her guardian.
Second Act
Ninon has gained a new friend and patron, the Minister of Arts Pipo de Frascati. With his support, she has become a well-known vaudeville singer. She still loves the painter Raoul and stays close to him. Violetta persuades the minister to give Raoul a job as a restorer in the Louvre . However, Ninon receives the thanks for her supposed help. The trio of artists are freed from their repeated financial worries and the bailiff when Florimond’s latest operetta is accepted.
Third Act
Florimond’s operetta has become a great success. Ninon is the prize-winning singer of the evening. When she receives a farewell letter from Raoul, she angrily leaves the theater. Violetta takes over her role and saves the performance. Meanwhile, a Baron Rothschild asks about the seller of the medallion. He reveals to Violetta that she is a Countess Bernini and has a lot of money. Violetta and Raoul finally get together.
