ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The new production by the Russian director Dmitri Tcherniakov at the Berlin State Opera generated tremendous media coverage. Tcherniakov has consistently modernized the material and moved the events to a research institute in the 1970s, while still retaining the myth as a poetic subtext. The excellent ensemble of singers, the Staatskapelle Berlin and last but not least Christian Thielemann’s baton were enthusiastically celebrated for a musical achievement that is not often experienced.
