ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
In Dante’s “Divine Comedy” one experiences hell and paradise as a reader – or as a listener of Benjamin Godard’s opera version in a poetic way.
How do you feel about religion? Even Goethe’s Faust had to nibble at the answer. Religions could bring about peace, but they still lead to violence and terror, like in ancient Rome and in the Middle Ages, like today in Israel, Paris and Mali. In Dante’s “Divine Comedy” one experiences hell and paradise as a reader – or as a listener of Benjamin Godard’s opera version in a poetic way. But what does “heavenly” mean to us, what does “hell” mean? How do religions influence our work, our fears, our hopes? Answers are provided by the head of the Munich Radio Orchestra, Ulf Schirmer, together with soloists and musicians in a concert performance of “Dante”.
