ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Dafne in lauro (Daphne as a laurel tree) is a chamber opera, a componimento per camera, composed by Johann Joseph Fux to a libretto by Pietro Pariati and performed for the imperial court before dinner on 1 October 1714 in the Favorita garden, Vienna, for the birthday of Emperor Charles VI. The opera is based on the myth of Apollo and Daphne.
Cheerful, gallant and lively in dance – this is how the Styrian Johann Joseph Fux shows himself in the first birthday opera he wrote for Emperor Karl VI. wrote. Their theme: a love war in the realm of the goddess of hunting Diana, kindled by Cupid and his opponent Apollo. The victim: the nymph Dafne, who must turn into laurel to save her innocence. At the moment of metamorphosis, lovemaking turns into mourning. In the Helmut List Halle, the story begins in a forgotten nymphaeum of today.
