In the world of opera, the Kammersänger title is the highest honor throughout Europe, but primarily in the German-speaking world.
In 2012, the management of the Opera transferred this rank to Hungarian professional life, with the creation of the title “Chamber Singer of the Hungarian State Opera”, which can be awarded to private singers. The recognition, which is combined with a special honorarium and goes to the recipient for one season, is intended to express respect for active soloists, valuing their talent and performance. Among ballet artists, the title “Etoile of the Hungarian National Ballet” established for them, which is based on the traditions of French ballet, serves the same purpose.
At the end of each season, an award depicting a swan, symbolizing both opera and ballet genres, is presented to recognized artists of the Hungarian State Opera House.
