ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

In 1989 the Teatro alla Scala staged all together between March and April the three operas by Mozart on librettos by Lorenzo Da Ponte. A historic appointment 150 years after the librettist’s death; an event, a new fact, because La Scala “is found for the first time to have all three operas in its repertoire (…) and moreover has them ready almost in a sort of trilogy, under the direction of the same maestro who is the its musical and stable director”, two under the direction of Strehler. The Marriage of Figaro (performed in 1981, 82, 87, adapting the show born in Versailles in 1973), Don Giovanni (in 1987, the opera’s bicentenary), Cosi fan tutte (setting from the Salzburg Festival 1982, directed by Hampe, sets and costumes by Mauro Pagano). For the occasion Arruga is in charge of the Programme, which is a book, a notebook of 146 pages, with a cover with a Varese paper design, and contains all three works: an Appointment for the public, the occasion for a relationship directed with Mozart. Exceptionally, the drafting and organization of the entire program is entrusted to Arruga, who articulates the approach speech: Theater of Mozart, Clues to listen, The 3 operas, The photographs, Scenes from Beaumarchais, from Molière, passages from Ariosto, Life of Mozart , the letters, the 3 booklets. Remo Miserocchi the sequence of scenes and musical Numbers.

Years later Arruga stages the titles of the trilogy as director. Three different occasions, of which makeshift or incomplete video documentation is preserved. Productions created for a theater (the first two) the Teatro Marrucino in Chieti, of historical importance, linked to an orchestral and choral training workshop and a 3-week internship for the artists selected in previous auditions (Così fan tutte in Chieti) and at the Valtidone Summer Camp with the students of the Nocera Terinese Conservatory (The Marriage of Figaro in Sarmato).
