This evening, the audience at Tchaikovsky Hall will be able to appreciate the skill of the winners of the XXVII International Glinka Vocal Competition, as well as hear the prima donna of the world opera stage, the chair of the competition jury, Albina Shagimuratova, accompanied by the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Dmitri Jurowski.

The International Glinka Vocal Competition has been held since 1960 and is one of the most prestigious vocal competitions. For over forty years, the jury was chaired by the outstanding singer and teacher, People’s Artist of the USSR, and professor Irina Arkhipova. After her passing, the competition was revived in 2019 at the initiative of Albina Shagimuratova, Honored Artist of Russia, People’s Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan, and first prize laureate of the 21st Glinka Competition. Over the years, renowned singers have won prizes and diplomas at the competition, including Elena Obraztsova, Evgeny Nesterenko, Alexander Voroshilo, Sergei Leiferkus, Albina Shagimuratova, Olga Borodina, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Askar Abdrazakov, Ildar Abdrazakov, and many others.

According to Albina Shagimuratova, “The competition’s goal is not only to discover and reward young singers with great voices. These days, it’s difficult, and sometimes impossible, for a budding singer to perform on the big stage of an opera house or concert hall. Our goal is to help talented people find their way and introduce new artists to audiences.”

The concert is part of the tour of the laureates of the XXVII M. I. Glinka Competition with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives.
