Originally a native of Phoenix, Arizona, Drew Sperry now lives in Indianapolis, Indiana as both a composer and a cellist. Currently, he is studying composition and cello performance at Butler University with Dr. Michael Schelle, Prof. Richard Auldon Clark (Composition), and Dr. William Grubb (Cello). At Butler University he also is a member of the Butler University Symphony Orchestra (currently serving as assistant principal), the Butler Ballet Orchestra, Butler String Ensemble, and the JCA New Music Ensemble, in addition to several small chamber ensembles performing both music old and new.

In his music, Drew likes to particularly focus on connections made throughout a piece, oftentimes through careful developments of motivic fragments and constructions of rich, dense harmonies. Drew’s interest in musical connections also extends beyond the music itself to his frequent collaborations with other artists, especially other musicians. In incorporating collaboration more intimately into his compositional process, Drew believes that the resulting music is more personal not only for the performers, but also for the audience.
