ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Created by the 2018-2020 company, but never staged due to the pandemic, this production of Carmen is reborn today with a new generation of students. Five years later, the project has been completely rethought, reworked, and reinvented with them, resulting in a profoundly contemporary version.
We made a bold artistic choice: to preserve the original libretto of Georges Bizet’s opera Carmen, created in 1875, without altering a single line, while entirely recomposing the music within a contemporary pop aesthetic.
This is therefore neither a modernized adaptation of the text nor a simple musical arrangement, but rather a true work of musical recreation of an intact heritage piece.
Through this project, the young artists of the Performing Arts program at Collège de la Providence take ownership of a major work from the repertoire, known for its iconic melodies and dramatic intensity, while simultaneously resonating with contemporary styles and sounds.
Between fidelity to the original text and musical freedom, this performance offers a unique encounter between tradition and modernity, driven by the energy, commitment, and sensitivity of a new generation.
