Excellent version. But for Carmen I prefer Rachvelishvili’s, a unique, real Carmen. Superb Kaufmann as José with a voice and technique quite different from any other tenor and incredible acting.
Antonacci is better as “La Ciociara”. Pappano called Kaufmann ‘marvelous’, it’s true, but JK knows whom to make friends with!
The last scene fight is terrific, it gave me the creeps! Both Antonacci and Kaufmann (younger here) were fantastic actors!
A “Carmen” to watch often. The combination Kaufmann-Pappano works to perfection. Excellent Antonecci as well.
