ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
On January 29, 2017, Espacio Anna Frank, within the framework of the sixth musical edition of its program In memoriam, offered the public of Caracas the presentation of the children’s opera Brundibár, in response to Resolution 60/7, issued by the Assembly General of the United Nations Organization (UN) in 2005, and through which the annual International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust was established.
Brundibár was composed in 1938 by Hans Krása, premiered in 1941 in a Jewish asylum in Prague and re-performed fifty-five times between 1942 and 1943 in the Terezín ghetto, to which its author was deported. At the time, it provided an air of normalcy for the children and an escape from confinement for the adults.
The work has been performed in various countries around the world and, in the Venezuelan case, it was the second time that the local public was able to enjoy it. This time it had the participation of children and young people who make up the Children’s and Youth Choir of the Central University of Venezuela and musicians from the Chacao Youth Symphony Orchestra.
