ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Set in England. Prince George, under the pseudonym Bob – dressed as a vagrant student – secretly leaves the palace at night to visit his lover Annie, a little bourgeois girl, accompanied by his faithful attendant, Master Pomponius. The prince’s twentieth birthday arrives, when his mother, the Queen, wants to give him the ancient Sword of St. George and wants him to marry the princess chosen for him, who, incidentally, secretly honors an officer of the Guard with her favors. Bob receives the homage of the court and foreign envoys and delivers justice to the people. Among the complainants are Annie and her father, as well as Plumpudding, the barber, the bridegroom chosen for the girl. Annie and her attendants are surprised to recognize Bob in the prince, but he manages to convince them that the student is just a lookalike.
