ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The opera “Biedermann and the Arsonists,” composed between 2005 and 2007 and based on the play by Max Frisch, occupies a key position in Šimon’s oeuvre. Frisch’s play, on a meta-level, depicts the disintegration of a seemingly intact world, culminating in the complete breakdown of the rules of reason. This process is also reflected in the music, which initially adheres to the language of classical opera. As the evening progresses, more and more elements of this language are lost, until at the end, when the characters have no further agency, the music becomes entirely “speechless.” (Šimon Voseček)
