ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Ludwig van Beethoven’s 9th Symphony was premiered 200 years ago. ORF III is showing the self-produced two-part series “Beethoven’s Vienna” in honor of the great composer. With the pianist Rudolf Buchbinder, one of the best Beethoven experts in the world, Barbara Rett follows in the composer’s footsteps in Vienna.
At the age of 22, the young genius “Ludwig van” came from Bonn to Vienna, where he was to spend the rest of his life. A big restless person – his moves from apartment to apartment are legendary. The first part of the documentation shows his apartments and places of work in the inner districts of Vienna. The Pasqualati House on the Mölker Bastei, the apartment on Laimgrubengasse, the restaurants in the first district where he was a guest, and the Theater an der Wien, where, among other things, the premiere of his only opera “Fidelio” took place.
Anyone who walks through the city with open eyes can still trace the life of the unique composer everywhere – including along the many memorial plaques and monuments.
